The Story behind Mrs Thomas's Mint Syrup

Fond memories of driving down to the river to collect the lush mint growing along the banks prompted Jan to start making Mint Syrup for friends & family as gifts for birthdays and Christmas. Our friends encouraged Jan to start selling it as they found it delicious and thought it needed to be shared. Picture of riverbed stones

The recipe that we use was given to Jan's parents by a neighbour called Mrs Thomas, this was when they married nearly 50 years ago. When deciding what to call the product we wanted to honour the lady that gave us the recipe, hence the name Mrs Thomas’s Mint Syrup. Our license to manufacture was obtained in October 2006 after more than 18 months of testing the product and the packaging at various markets around Canterbury.

The mint used is spray free and grown on our property in Balcairn, Canterbury. We collect fresh mint each time a new batch is made to ensure the fullness of flavour is preserved. Only the best mint finds its way into our product. We import our bottles all the way from Milan from a leading glass design company in Italy.

We sell the product around New Zealand at markets and through reseller outlets. These resellers are shops, delicatessen and restaurants that cater for clients appreciating special products and gourmet foods.
